Our handcrafted collection of cashmere and fine wool scarves is called ‚Charkha‘, which means something like ‚hand spinning wheel‘ in Hindi. This is closely connected with Mahatma Gandhi, the father of Indian independence. Gandhi believed that the desire for freedom and social cohesion can be sparked by the sound of the spinning wheel. Through his teachings, he made it a symbol of non-violence, independence and a tool in the hands of the people to lift them out of poverty. Our handmade collection is made in the conflict areas of Jammu and Kashmir. We believe that Gandhi’s philosophy is still valid today: local hand-woven works of art and the possibility of selling them on the international market,

Die blaue Farbe dieses Schals wurde von der Stadt Jodhpur inspiriert, die auch unter dem Namen ‚Blue City‘ oder eben ‚Blaue Stadt‘ bekannt ist. In Jodhpur zieht sich ein weites Meer aus blauen Häusern über eine Strecke von mehreren Kilometern an der Mauer der historischen Altstadt entlang. Einst zierte die blaue Farbe ausschliesslich die Häuser der Brahmanen, der Priester, und hob diese so hervor. Doch mit der Zeit bemalten auch die anderen Einwohner ihre Hausfassaden mit der kühlenden Farbe, bis schliesslich fast die gesamte Altstadt in ein facettenreiches Blau eingetaucht war.
