Our handcrafted collection of cashmere and fine wool scarves is called ‚Charkha‘, which means something like ‚hand spinning wheel‘ in Hindi. This is closely connected with Mahatma Gandhi, the father of Indian independence. Gandhi believed that the desire for freedom and social cohesion can be sparked by the sound of the spinning wheel. Through his teachings, he made it a symbol of non-violence, independence and a tool in the hands of the people to lift them out of poverty. Our handmade collection is made in the conflict areas of Jammu and Kashmir. We believe that Gandhi’s philosophy still applies today: local hand-woven works of art and the opportunity to sell them on the international market,

Dieser Schal trägt die Farbe Gelb, die in Indien Wissen und Lernen aber auch Glück, Friede und Meditation symbolisiert. Gelb wird zudem als heilig angesehen und ist eng mit religiösen Bräuchen verbunden: Von den Ringelblumen (marigold), die während des Gebets auf den Altar gelegt werden, bis zur Kleidung des Priesters. Dank einigen beliebten Bollywood Filmen gelten Sonnenblumenfelder in Indien auch als etwas sehr Romantisches; und seit der Neuverfilmung von ‚Die Schöne und das Biest‘, hat selbst Hollywood den Charme dieser Farbe wieder neu für sich entdeckt. Und das haben auch wir für diesen speziellen Schal getan, der genau wie die Farbe Gelb, mehr als nur eine Seite besitzt.
